So with Europe on our doorstep we had 12 days to cram in as much as we could… The list consisted of Amsterdam to take in a bit of the ladies European championships, Cannes to feel like a movie star, Venice for a swim in the canals and then finally Budapest to catch the GP.
Having never visited any of the above places before we were really looking forward to see what each country had to offer.
Unfortunately it didn’t start well as the only one of us that deals with insomnia at 1am on the morning of our flight to Amsterdam I had a lovely e-mail from BA to say that our flight from London Gatwick had been cancelled and we had been moved to an afternoon flight from London Heathrow. I thought I was dreaming.. So unfortunately our Amsterdam trip was slightly delayed, but once we finally got there we started to “chill out”
We were staying at CitizenM hotel in the city and it was pretty cool, but if you are a modest person then be careful as the shower isn’t all that private.
We managed to take in a ladies game (England v Scotland), which England of course won convincingly (sorry Scottish friends), visit a few museums, take in the red light district (for all it’s glory) and visit the original Dampkring Coffeeshop where we met a 19 year old cat that was amazingly chilled out and even joined us for a coffee. After Amsterdam we were moving on to Cannes, so a quick flight down to Nice and we were in the sunshine. Having never been to the south of France before I was not sure what to expect, but we had a great time. I think the best bit about Cannes was the amazing bakery we had on our doorstep, which no matter what time of the day you went in there had warm baguettes waiting for you.
We spent most of our time in Cannes relaxing, but we did manage a day trip to Monaco which has to be one of the most expensive places on earth. We enjoyed 3 cokes and a beer for €45.00… I almost fell off my chair!
On to Venice and what a place… We loved it (especially the food). Flying into Venice at sunset started the trip off and the views were spectacular.
Had a great time wondering around all the sites and even took a boat trip to the other islands to Murano, Burano and Torcello.
We only had a few days here, but we will definitely be back soon before it sinks!
Our final stop of the trip was Budapest for the Grand Prix. We took in some great sites, tried some amazing wine in the cellar of the castle and watched the GP ironically with quite a few dutchmen a few of who we already met in Amsterdam 12 days earlier.
All in all a fab couple of weeks with some great friends taking in some new places.
Till next time, Travel EZ the ladies from EZPZ
